It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the unexpected passing of our comrade Rudi Friedrich, executive director of Connection e.V., partner of conscientious objectors internationally and tireless anti-war activist and human rights defender.
With his unwavering commitment and solidarity in the anti-war movement and the conscientious objection movement, Rudi was an important part of the struggle for the support of conscientious objectors and for the guarantee of the right to conscientious objection in many countries. From the 90s until today, he has made an unforgettable contribution to the organisation of numerous campaigns for the recognition of the right to conscientious objection in Turkey and for the support of conscientious objectors from Turkey. It’s an honour for us to share the same ideals and walk the same path with him in our struggle against not only conscription but also militarism.
This is a huge loss for the international anti-war/conscientious objection movement. We will continue to resist war and conscription with the inspiration and courage Rudi gave us. We will always remember his commitment to the anti-war movement, his strong solidarity with the conscientious objection movement in Turkey and his kindness.
